GGC AGM! Not just an acronym!

This weekend I will be in Calgary participating in the annual general meeting for Girl Guides of Canada. I will be leading a members engagement table for a part of the day and then will give a brief 15-20 minute presentation about the YWWF2010 in the evening. I am really excite to have this opportunity and also connect with Girl Guides around the country to hear what they have to say about GGC. It is hard to believe that I still have something new to say about the Forum every time I speak even if it is a year and a half later. I hope that my presentation will be a source of inspiration for others to continue working on projects or start their own for projects to achieve things that are important to them!

And now for some shameless self promotion... Follow me on Twitter (@girlguidechange) for updates while I am at the AGM and of course I will update on the blog after the fact.

While I am talking about ways to connect with me I want to talk a bit about my website www.girlguideforchange.com. This website is about nine months old and is supposed to serve as a platform for members to talk to each other about their MDG projects and even just to connect with girls and women from around the world. But no one is signing up! L I want to have a contest for the first 10 people who sign up to win an exclusive Girl Guides for Change Prize Pack which will be delivered free of charge right to your address! If I saw something like this I would be pretty excited! If anyone has any suggestions about how to make my website better please let me know as I would love to get more people involved and talking!

What do you think? What would you like to see next on Girl Guide for Change? Please let me know either by filling out this poll or commenting below!

Little Swiss Miss!

My little sister (well she is 20 so I guess not so little) left for Our Chalet this morning to spend the entire summer in Switzerland as a volunteer. Not only am I insanely jealous that she will have this incredible experience I am also really proud of her for taking this life-changing journey on her own. I did a session at Our Chalet in July of 2007 and it was so much fun! The white water rafting, mountain climbing and campfires were completely up my alley and I loved visiting a place that even though I had never been there before, felt like home.

Heather is one of the summer volunteers and she will be at Our Chalet as a summer assistant along with other girls from around the world. I guess I am making this post to be a bit braggy about my sister, but also to encourage all of the Girl Guides and Girl Scouts who read this blog to try and go to a world centre because it is an incredible life-changing experience and I would recommend it to anyone. Go well and safely!

To all who come to this happy place...WELCOME!

I have just returned home from a fantastic week long adventure in Disneyland in California. I just finished university and my mom and sisters and I went to the happiest place on Earth to celebrate! It was a lot of fun and it made me realize just how lucky I am to be in a position in my life to have just finished a post-secondary degree and be able to go on a vacation with my family (even if Dad had to stay home). I think that a lot of times people in this part of the world get caught up on all of the little things that go wrong in their lives, whether it be a stock losing value or getting a crack in your windshield and we forget just how lucky we are to live in a place where we can have a place in the economy or we can drive a car to work or school. We are truly lucky and blessed to live the lives we do.
After that little “micro-rant” I wanted to talk about an organization that I think is so cool! It is called Dreams Take Flight and it takes children from low income families and children who are sick in the hospital for a whirl wind day trip to Disneyland! It is truly my favourite place in the entire world and the idea that these kids get the chance to experience it makes it even more exciting. I hope that I can one day actively volunteer with this organization and even go with them to see the joy and excitement on the children’s faces as they walk through the gates to that magic place where you enter a world of yesterday, tomorrow, and fantasy.

"To all who come to this happy place; welcome. Disneyland is your land. Here age relives fond memories of the past...and here youth may savor the challenge and promise of the future. Disneyland is dedicated to the ideals, the dreams and the hard facts that have created America...with the hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all the world.”
